Tournament Success for Capt. Jeff!

Capt. Jeff Schneider fished the 16th annual Peter T. Assimack Inshore Slam Tournament last weekend.   The Tournament is run out of the Anclote River.  It was a beautiful morning for a shotgun start of about 90 boats.   As the sun came up so did the wind gusting to around 25 knots and blowing a constant 15 throughout the day. Although Jeff didn’t get to do any fishing in the days prior to the tournament because he was fishing in Boca Grande, he was still confident he had a good game plan.

Tarpon fishing is getting HOT!

The Love Bugs are here!!!  Now don’t go thinking I actually like these horny little paint killers.  Actually, there are few things I dislike more than having to wash them of my car every few days, but they are good for one thing.  Every year Love Bugs are a sure sign that Tarpon and Cobia are here.  Now we have been catching a few Cobia and some nice Tarpon, but the big numbers had not shown up yet.

Redfish for All!

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]We spent Sunday afternoon fishing the Anclote area with Captain Jeff and some friends.  Capt. Jeff got out early and battled through windy, rough conditions to get enough bait for the day.  We hopped aboard the boat and idled out of the river.  We had Cobia on our minds but with the wind up and a moderate chop on the water, it made it hard to spot cruising fish.  We ran back into the river in search of Redfish and calmer water.

Tarpon Time in Tampa Bay!!!

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Tarpon, TARPON, TARPON!!!! Tarpon have been on my mind ever since the big schools left last year.  Well, Tarpon Time is here again!  Last week we strung together consecutive days of 5 or more Tarpon ranging from 60-120 lbs.  The bait is right where it should be and the Tarpon are ready to eat.  We have been hooking them around the bridges and seeing them on the beaches and passes as well. This is just the beginning and it is only going to get better over the next few months.

Fish, Fish, and More Fish!

Last Sunday I had the pleasure of fishing with Jim Denison , his son Ryan and father in law Russ.  It was set to be a great fishing day with great weather to boot!  Ryan started of the day by landing the first two fish and proceeded to leave everyone in his dust.  It is not often I see a 7 yr. old outfish everyone else, but he continued to put on a fishing clinic till the boat reached the dock.   The fishing was steady all day with Redfish, Trout, Flounder,

Big Trout for the Big Boys!

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Last Saturday I had the privilege of fishing with Ex Buccaneer Lineman Jason Maniecki and the new Defensive Line coach, Grady Stretz. As soon as we started fishing everyone’s competitive nature came roaring out. From the time the first fish reached the boat it was on.  Jason started off strong, but by the end of the day it was too close to call.

Last Week: Tarpon and Cobia between the storms!

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Well, the weather made it hard to get out last week, but it did afford us a few windows to get out and get on some big fish! Some early season Tarpon are making a welcome appearance and we have hooked fish on every attempt so far. They have all been in the 50-100 lb. class, which in my opinion are some of the most fun to catch.

Light Tackle Black Drumming!

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Well, it’s that time of year again, the black drum are moving in to Tampa bay to spawn. I don’t know if it’s just been a while since I’ve seen these fish, but they look bigger than ever this year. We have been getting these monsters to eat on every trip, and we’re getting them to the boat on trout tackle which is a real thrill if you’ve never tried it. We have spent a good part of our fishing time over the past few weeks fishing for these bruisers, and are looking forward to them hanging around for us to […]
