A Backcountry Birthday

Well, this last week was a good one to be on the water.  The winds were calm, the water warmed up a bit and the fish are really showing up to eat!  What didn’t we catch this week, Snook, Redfish, Flounder, Trout, and Mackeral all came to the boat on a consistent basis.  We ended this week with a bang as I had the privilege of taking my clients Kendall and Kendall Jr. out for a Birthday fishing trip yesterday.

Spring is in the Air!

Wow, do I have a lot to be thankful for right now. This winter wasn’t nearly as hard on the fish as last year and most of the cold weather seems to be behind us. The water temp is starting to warm up and is getting close to that magic number of 70. This Sunday I picked up my clients at O’Neill’s right at sunrise and we were off. Light Tackle Black Drumming!

Well, it’s that time of year again, the black drum are moving in to Tampa bay to spawn. I don’t know if it’s just been a while since I’ve seen these fish, but they look bigger than ever this year. We have been getting these monsters to eat on every trip, and we’re getting them to the boat on trout tackle which is a real thrill if you’ve never tried it. We have spent a good part of our fishing time over the past few weeks fishing for these bruisers, and are looking forward to them hanging around for us to enjoy for another month or so. Read More
